I hope everyone had a fun filled Father’s Day weekend. My husband was on call (#doctorlife) and was pretty busy with hospital patients, but we still managed to sneak in some quality time with our favorite guy!
If you’ve been following along on the blog and Instagram, you know we have been in the process of moving over the last few weeks. It’s been long and draining, but we are officially moved in to our new house! There is still a lot of work to be done: unpacking, hanging pictures…buying everything at Target ?, the usual moving in tasks.
We had a garage sale last weekend, and made enough money to just about break even on moving costs, so I’ll call that a win! I remember having garage sales when I was little, but this was my first experience throwing one myself. It was WORK.
Look at these little garage sale helpers!
The first major project that I wanted to tackle was to get the playroom organized and functional. I knew once the kids got in there it would be destroyed, so I wanted to have a good jumping off point.
We are renting, so I’m limited on things like painting, flooring, and other major changes. I have always wanted a chalkboard wall for the kids, but I’m sure our landlord would not appreciate a giant black wall, so I decided to do the next best thing and hang a large chalkboard. There is a low wall overlooking the first floor entry way, and for safety purposes I didn’t want to put any shelves or climbable apparatuses in this corner, so I thought it would be the perfect corner for the chalkboard and a little reading nook.
I measured the space, and ordered this giant chalkboard on Amazon.
On the adjacent wall, I ordered these amazing clear floating shelves. They actually hold quite a few books. I have seen reading nooks featuring shelves likes these on Pinterest for years and have always wanted to try them. I have plans to change the books out for holidays and seasons. So many cute things could be done here!
I should add that the shelves were ridiculously easy to hang. I didn’t even need a drill. I had the three shelves up before my son could finish his Peppa Pig episode. ?
I added a large basket that I re-purposed from another room, for the extra books that I couldn’t fit on the shelves. The kids cozy little chairs completed the look for the perfect reading nook! I can’t wait to spend the hours before bedtime, cuddled up in our nook, encouraging a love for reading with my littles!
On the other side of the playroom, we have a small-ish trampoline, which takes up the majority of the space, and a tall bookcase which I decided to use for board game and puzzle storage because there isn’t a storage closet upstairs unfortunately. We also have a few other large toys that take up space. I will share photos of the entire space once it’s finished, but for now I’m going to be enjoying this little corner!
